Have you ever been out and about going through your normal routine when an image or a sound stops you in your tracks?
A flash of bright blue…
The laughter of a child…
The effervescent bubbles of champagne…
The wind softly caressing the trees…
These moments of intense fascination are taps on our shoulders to stop and pay attention.
Life is happening.
Are your participating or watching from the sidelines?

What is a shadow?
Light shining around an object, tracing a form to reveal a shape.
As you transit through your life you have the choice to shine and cast shadows around those you come in contact with.
Will those shadows be filled with warm, glowing memories or dark, cold impressions?
You make the choice in your journey.
Choose wisely.

Look.
Breathe.
Feel.
See.
Listen.
Use your senses to explore the mysteries around your every day.
You may not be climbing mountains or diving to the bottom of the ocean, but only you can share your experiences with the world.
You matter.
Your ideas count.
Your voice should be heard.
Do not let fear or the attitudes of others silence you.
Sing out with joy!

Creative space is really at the foundation of what we do.
It’s a support system to protect us, inspire us, nurture us and provide for us.
What you bring into it and what you get out of it is up to you.

*Nothing like technology to give you a challenge. WordPress issues with the site, now resolved.
I’m embarrassed to show your pictures of my workspaces.
Yes, plural. I work in so many media – which is part of my problem.
Photography, graphic design, art (acrylic, watercolor, drawing, mixed media), jewelry, fashion design, costumery, fiber, floral design – basically anything.
It’s better than what it was, but still have lots to figure out, go through, clean up, repair and purge.
So here’s what I want.
A clean space I can work in with lots of storage (materials, reference, finished projects, media), good light, inspirational pops of color and items I love, music, plants, room for the cats to perch (besides on my projects), places to sit and think and contemplate and dream.
A space I can step into and go to work, where everything has a home and is easy to clean up.
If it could be used as gallery space for special occasions, all the better.
Here’s some studio spaces I found for inspiration:

Studios to Visit:
I crave studio space.
I would love to be able to have a space within two minutes I could be ready to create in. The reality is thirty minutes or more clearing space to set up for a project and get started.
I feast on the magazines (Where Women Create) and books which have come out showcasing the studio and workspaces of artists. Layers of organization overlaid with the hallmarks of their artwork – I so want this for my own work space.
So one of my goals for this next year is to spend thought, time and energy to make this creative space. It will be a project itself as I work in the different media and think about the best way to hold project materials and other supplies.
Stay tuned.

Have you felt it?
That flutter in your stomach…
The intake of a quick breath…
The hope in your heart…
In the pause before you go ahead and do something you’re scared to do…

Welcome to the first day of summer – and the longest day of the year.
It’s the perfect time to kick-off new projects and get started doing what you want to do.
You can reflect back on what you planned to do at the beginning of the year (before you got derailed with work, family, insert your reason here) OR you can take a deep breath and admit what you really want to do next.
Make a short list of what YOU* want to get going during these longer daylight hours or make a quick vision board to get yourself inspired. The trick with either of these is to use them to get you started – don’t procrastinate. One of the coolest things about these is you can always add and subtract to your list/board.
*We all have obligations. Make a separate list or vision board to take care of these. In a perfect world, one board or list would take care of it all. If you can do them this way, more power to you. If not, it’s okay to have both.
There’s no right or wrong way to do this. The keys are to make sure the list or the board is inspiring for YOU. Quotes, photos, paintings, books – whatever speaks to you.

It’s a great time to begin again.

Tonight is the longest night of the year – the winter solstice.
A time to reflect on the past and a time to draw together in celebration.
Creativity – and life – works better when you do both.
If you feel like you’ve been running a marathon in place without getting anywhere, step off the treadmill.
Seek some moments of peace to be still and ask yourself what all the running was for.
Are you any closer to achieving your goal?
Do you remember what your goal is?
The answers might surprise you.
Most people have goals tied in some way to their loved ones.
If they are the reason for what you do, remember to spend time being with them.
Nothing means more than being together – eating a meal, watching a movie, playing a game, hanging out.
These are the precious times.
May the season shine bright for you and those you love.
